Senior Preferred & Part D Vaccines
Some vaccines and their administration costs are covered under the Medicare Prescription Drug (Part D) benefit.

Examples of vaccines covered under the Part D benefit include:
  • Zoster (Shingles) vaccine
  • Tetanus Diphtheria (TD) vaccine

The cost share amount you will be responsible for will depend on how the vaccine is dispensed and who administers the vaccine. Receiving your vaccines in a physician’s office may mean you are financially responsible for the cost of the services, and will need to submit insurance claims on your own.

To obtain the best benefit under your Part D plan, you should receive your vaccine from a network pharmacy that employs pharmacists certified to administer vaccines. Please contact our Customer Service Department for a list of network pharmacies in your area that are certified to administer your Part D vaccine.

Please note, if you have chosen not to take drug coverage through the Senior Preferred Part D Drug benefit, you will not have coverage for Part D vaccines. However, there are a few vaccines covered under your Senior Preferred Medical Part B coverage. These vaccines include:

  • Influenza vaccine
  • Pneumococcal vaccine
  • Tetanus vaccines necessary for the treatment of an illness or an injury that has occurred.
